NDUGA - In a touching display of compassion and community engagement, the Para Raider Infantry Battalion 503/Mayangkara Kostrad, operating under the HABEMA Operational Command of the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI), brought joy and inspiration to Banggabeak Village in Krepkuri District, Nduga Regency, Papua Pegunungan Province. On Saturday, November 23, 2024, the Soldiers turned an ordinary haircut session into an extraordinary moment of care and connection through their program “TNI Cares for Haircuts.”
Haircuts with a Purpose
Led by Captain Galih Widiharyo of the Batas Batu Post, the Task Forces combined their routine patrols with an initiative to promote personal hygiene and tidiness among local children. Recognizing that today’s children are the future leaders of the nation, the Soldiers not only offered free haircuts but also imparted life lessons and values.
While the clippers buzzed, Soldiers engaged the children in conversations about the importance of cleanliness, discipline, and the principles of Pancasila. This hands-on approach made the session both practical and educational, creating an unforgettable experience for the young participants.
With laughter and excitement filling the air, the children eagerly embraced the opportunity. “We do, Commander!” they chorused when asked if they wanted fresh haircuts. The joy on their faces was a testament to the success of this initiative.
A Moment to Remember
For Rio Kogoya, one of the children who received a haircut, the day left a lasting impression. “Thank you, Commander 503, for cutting my hair, ” he said with a bright smile. His simple yet heartfelt gratitude echoed the sentiment of the entire village, highlighting the profound impact of such a gesture.
Leadership with Heart
Lieutenant Colonel Gurbasa Samosir, Commander of the 503 Task Forces, emphasized the significance of community-focused initiatives. “These moments go beyond security operations. They are about building trust, showing that we care, and inspiring hope for the future, ” he shared.
Brigadier General Lucky Avianto, Commanding General of HABEMA, applauded the Soldiers’ efforts. “The TNI Cares for Haircuts program reflects our commitment to inclusive social engagement. It’s a reminder that even the smallest acts of kindness can create meaningful change and foster unity, ” he said.
Building Trust, Inspiring Hope
The TNI Cares for Haircuts program exemplifies the TNI’s dedication to uplifting the communities they serve. By addressing basic needs and engaging in meaningful dialogue, the Task Forces are not only securing the region but also nurturing a sense of belonging and trust.
In the lush landscapes of Papua Pegunungan, this initiative symbolizes a brighter future—one where care, connection, and collaboration pave the way for lasting peace and development.
